We are offering “Ruby” for sale, a 2019 Hawthorne e-Assist which we purchased from House of Tandems, in 2023. This is our third tandem – after 30+ years of tandem riding, we wanted to try an e-tandem but were reluctant to committing to a new build. House of Tandems offered Ruby for resale after the original purchasers were no longer able cycle due to medical issues. It was low mileage when we purchased it and has probably less than 700 miles on it overall. The frame, wheels, motor, battery, and all electrical and mechanical components are still in very good to excellent condition. It has been an enjoyable and reliable tandem and the e-Assist feature has allowed us to expand the types of tandem riding (hills, distance, etc.) we enjoy.
After our positive experience with Ruby, we commissioned House of Tandems to design and build us a new Hawthorne travel e-tandem to our specifications, which will be delivered soon. We hope to sell this tandem to another tandem couple who would like to try an e-tandem at a discounted price. This may become your forever bike!
Sizing is considered medium/medium. Captain is 5’8” tall and stoker is 5’4” tall. Captain’s top tube height is approximately 28.5” (72.4 cm) at center and stoker’s top tube is approximately 24” (61 cm) at center. The ruby red frame is a real eye catcher that sparkles in the sunlight. There are a few minor scuffs, primarily on the captain’s top tube (shown in photos.) Shimano Steps controls are simple and intuitive to operate. Left thumb toggle (located on the inner brake lever) operates the e-Assist modes (Off, Eco, Trail, Boost) and right thumb toggle operates the Di2 rear 11-speed cluster. The Steps display unit shows both e-Assist mode, selected gear, and battery reserve. Shifting is silky smooth and quiet. Features:

- Stoker enjoys a Kinekt LR Model suspension seat post, 330 mm length
- Other carbon components include the captain and stoker’s handlebars, stoker’s seat post, and three water bottle cages.

This tandem is located in the San Francisco Bay Area. Available for pick-up. Seller will consider delivering within a reasonable distance in Northern California or will carefully pack and ship via either BikeFlights or ShipBikes (Buyer’s choice.)
