2009 Cannondale Road Tandem
Date: September 17 Ad ID: Pepel
I have for sale a 2009 Cannondale Road Tandem upgraded with:
- 11 Speed Di2 rear with mechanical 3x front chainrings for a wide range of gears
- New GP 5000 tires
- Suspension seatpost for stoker
- Nearly new sync chainrings and red matching alloy bolts
- New bottom brackets, both front and rear
- All three drive chainrings are new as well
- New bartape for stoker
Saddles and pedals pictured are not included but a selection of saddles is available.
The bike has some wear marks from touring bags rubbing. Nothing function, just cosmetic. I have have taken close up photos but encourage prospective buyers to come see the bike in person.
It was originally a 3x10 mechanical drivetrain, but I have upgraded it to 11 speed rear electronic (Di2) for a much better shifting experience. It has very large brake rotors and Avid BB7 road mechanical caliper disk brakes. The crankset is FSA, and the remainder of the drivetrain is Shimano Ultegra. The wheels are 40 spoke with White Industries hubs.
There are a few small mechanical issues. The circlip for the self extracting bolt on the eccentric bottom bracket is missing. This can be easily purchased and replace, I just have not needed it, as I usually just remove the whole bolt and gently tap the other side out with a rubber mallet. The rear hub is still 10 speed but fits Shimano CS-HG700 and CS-HG800 11 speed cassettes. There are other 11 speed cassettes on the market that will also fit a 10 speed hub just fine.
This bike is fast on the road. With two strong riders 30mph on flat ground is easy. It weighs around 38 lbs, which is less than two good-quality road bikes combined. It can fit easily on a rear bicycle rack like a Saris Bones if you remove the wheels and put them in the trunk (or hang them on the rack in the other bicycle positions).
I bought this bike used with 3,800 miles on it, and now I have put another 3,444 miles on the bike on various rides with my wife, my son, my daughter, and friends. I have always taken good care of the bike, keeping the chain lubed (with a custom PTFE Molybdenum wax), cleaning and changing out cables, housing, tires, and brake pads when needed.
We have done hard group rides, easy afternoon exploration and a good amount of touring with the bike. I am planning to purchase a Co-Motion, but I will miss this bike.
